Most animals will have a routine in the wild, like flight paths to and from a nest, typical feeding or play times, etc. at zoos, animals tend to have routes they travel within an enclosure. Practice watching behaviour, envisioning the shot you'd like to make, and then let the animal come to you.
This is a great way to practice being patient as well. And, the longer you stay at an enclosure, the better chance you'll have of getting yourself into proper position for the shot. Most visitors will simply stop, point, take a picture, and walk away.
